Create a Photo Set At Home

You can still achieve versatility when you take photos at home by creating photography backdrops.

Creating photography backdrops is also useful if you don’t have the opportunity or the ability to change locations to photograph. 

This post has 7 tips to help you change your space and increase versatility in your photos. 

I suggest you try more than one tip simultaneously for more efficient results.

It will start from a simple original space, that is build it up to a different scenario.

Each step has photo examples to help you.

Choose a well-illuminated space.

Make sure it is clean.

Remove all the distractions – trash, loose objects and clothes.

1. Hang a picture or painting on the wall

I already had nails to hang this painting. 

You can use double-sided tape.

Alternatively, adhesive wall hooks.

Bigger paintings work better to disguise the fact you are using the same space. 

Solid colours give the illusion of negative space.

2. Change the sofa sheets or add a cover to your chairs

3. Use decorations to change it up

Use props strategically to bring focus to your subject.

Plants of different sizes are great for framing.

4. Cover the floor

The floor is the biggest tell you never left your house.

Use carpets or blankets to cover the floor.

You can also use paper.

5. Use a Backdrop

White and green backdrops are the most used.

But don’t be afraid to use prints and colourful fabrics. 

You can use anything from a blanket, tablecloth, curtain or paper. 

Hang it somewhere high with good light, and you’re ready to begin. 

A partial backdrop will cover only a part of the wall. 

A full backdrop covers the entire space until the floor. 

Use each according to your shotlist.

6. Move the furniture

Exchanged the sofa with a chair.

7. Use a different area of the room

Don’t always photograph in the same space.

Use different rooms or a corner of the house instead of a full wall.

As you can see simple alterations can make extreme difference when it comes to taking photos.
